Bianka Kent
Practice owner | Physiotherapist
Bachelor of Exercise Science, Master of Physiotherapy
A lifelong love affair with being active and a fascination with the human body has transpired into a career as a Physiotherapist.

On a practical level this translates to: I help people overcome the movement and mobility challenges that present, or are present in their lives.

My career as a Physiotherapist started after graduating from The Queensland University of Technology in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Movement Studies. Not knowing exactly what I wanted to do with the degree, I spent nearly decade working as a personal trainer and in fitness administration and management with Zest Health Clubs, Goodlife Health Clubs and Jetts Fitness.
The allied health profession must have been calling my name as after opening a small but successful Pilates Studio in Toowoomba (2015), I knew I wanted go beyond the gym floor and reformers and to find my way back to a career in allied health. So, after alot of thinking about becoming a Physiotherapist, I took action. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”– Lao Tzu.

I just really enjoy being a part of peoples movement journeys, helping them to see that maybe it is possible. With a little bit of effort, time and patience, many things are possible.
Practice Areas of Interest
01
Rehabilitation
The World Health Organisation defines rehabilitation as “a set of interventions designed to optimise functioning and reduce disability in individuals with health conditions in interaction with their environment."
Put simply, rehabilitation helps a child, adult or older person to be as independent as possible in everyday activities and enables participation in education, work, recreation and meaningful life roles such as taking care of family. It does so by working with the person and their family to address underlying health conditions and their symptoms, modifying their environment to better suit their needs, using assistive products, educating to strengthen self-management, and adapting tasks so that they can be performed more safely and independently. Together, these strategies can help an individual; overcome difficulties with thinking, seeing, hearing, communicating, eating or moving around.
02
Community
Community Physiotherapy is exactly what it sounds like. I am out and about in community, providing services in home, residential aged care facilities, at workplaces and the like. For example, gran might have recently undergone a hip replacement and travelling too and from the hospital for services is just not wise at this stage of grans post surgical journey. As a community Physiotherapist I can visit gran in the comfort of her own home.
All in One
Neurological Conditions
I'm fascinated by neurological conditions such as Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Stroke. Neurological conditions also encompass all the key areas I'm interested in >>> rehabilitation, community and disability.

03
Disability
Disability Physiotherapy focuses on ways to improve a persons quality of life and covers a range of Quality of Life Outcomes.

-
General health
-
Mobility, capacity, independence
-
Recreation and leisure
-
Assessment and modification of physical environment
-
And so much more....

One of the things I love most about working with patients with disability is the clinical creativity required to meet a goal. There is no room for a cookie cutter approach as each person and the challenges they face are unique.
